After a two year hiatus owing to you-know-what, the Suffolk Punch Reliability Trial returned last Sunday. Following a choice of 36 mile (Pony), 60 mile (Gelding) or 75 mile (Stallion) routes, a total of 29 riders set off into strong westerly winds and filthy wet roads. Conditions are always a challenge at this time of year, and several riders suffered punctures owing to debris and hedge trimmings on the Suffolk lanes.
While it was wet and windy, it was never really that cold on the day – but most riders agreed that the roughly 3 mile final run from Thurston back to club HQ on Shakers Lane was the toughest part, heading directly into the westerly gusts.
WSW members signing on for the event picked up their complementary neck scarves, produced to celebrate 2022 being our 100th anniversary year.
As is traditional, the event entry fee and proceeds from refreshments were collected in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance, this year amounting to £321. Thanks to Justin for organising the event, and to Neville, Ann and Sue for their help with refreshments for returning riders.
