Diminutive differences – Fred Filby 2023

Stephen BrookNews, Time Trials

A hardy group of 16 riders ventured out on Boxing Day for our annual Fred Filby time trial. Given the typical Christmas diet, thankfully riders didn’t need to attempt a full gas effort over the 10 mile Horringer course – the format of this event allows them to pick a target time within a given pace range; their goal is then to get as close to that time as possible without the aid of any timing equipment.

It was a close one this year, with the top 4 riders each within 20 seconds of their target time – most of them being time trial regulars, so adept as gauging their pace. Matt Shingleton was ultimately the closest, finishing in 30:24, only 12 seconds away from his target time.

A reminder that our regular club time trials commence again in April on Thursday evenings – look out for the 2024 calendar shortly here: Racing | West Suffolk Wheelers
