Lots of Wheelers triathletes were in action over the weekend, from Llanberis to Lanzarote.
Lee French kicked off the weekend on Saturday, competing in Lanzarote Ironman. Hot conditions, combined with an undulating bike course made this an ultimate test. Lee completed the 3.8km swim in 1.13.34, 182km bike in 7.32.37 followed by a marathon in 4.58.50. Very well done, Lee.

Closer home, and slightly shorter distances, Newmarket saw 7 Wheelers tackle the sprint distance. Lee Sole was our first Wheeler home in overall 8th, closely followed by James Heath in 12th and Annie Drugan in 14th and 2nd overall female. Niki Bennett also had a good result, winning her age group. Other Wheelers in action were Claire Dunn, Alison Blackwell and Karen Page.

Not to be outdone by wife Claire, Aidan Dunn competed at Grafham water in the 1/2 Ironman. Paul Turnill and Nick Bull also represented the Wheelers. Unfortunately, the swim distance was cut due to water temperature. Nick’s overall time was 4.26.14. In only his 2nd ever Tri after a sprint 4 yrs ago, Paul was particularly pleased with his 4.42.49 time. Aidan’s overall time was 5.34.43

The ever in form Matt Shingleton posted another good result claiming overall second in the Hanningfield Standard distance triathlon.
Sorry Matt, I couldn’t find the link to the results.
Slightly further from home, Malcolm Mcfarlane and Ray Reeves decided to step up a distance and compete at the Llanberis Slateman Triathlon in Wales. Malcolm completed the course in 3.14.01 and Ray in 3.27.01

Eton Dorney is our next venue where Helen Samuel and Pip Moore were competing in their first draft legal race, the ITU World Championship qualifier. The World Championships being held in Rotterdam saw a strong field but Helen certainly took full advantage of the drafting rules and posted a fantastic bike split. Unfortunately, my decent swim and run didn’t make up for a fairly mediocre bike.🙁

Finally, Laura Brown competed in the Big East middle distance triathlon at Bradwell on Sea, Essex. Laura posted a superb time of 5.11.13 to claim overall 15th and first female home.
