Round 1 of the Maglia Rosso sponsored Suffolk Cycle Series Races rolled into Trinity Park Ipswich on Wednesday evening (22nd June). A series of closed circuit races a course of about 2 km long saw some very fast paced and competitive racing from a strong contingent of West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club racers, with Fraser Elsworth setting the tone with a hard fought 4th spot in the Under 16 race.

Some lively racing from Malcolm Borg (13th) and Stu Grand (16th) in the 4th category race saw them lead home solid efforts from Joseph Kay (22nd), Steve Palmer (29th) and Mark Camp (31st). Scott Williams withdrew with a mechanical issue about half way through.

In the Elite/1st/2nd/3rd cat race, Tom Smith found himself up in the lead group mix and his effort was rewarded with an impressive 17th. Matt Denny, in his debut race in this category, will be very pleased with 40th.

Elsewhere, Stu Grand continued his exploits with an explosive display at the Letchworth Grand Prix Cycling series on Sunday 26th June. Another closed circuit event, this time a crit race over a shorter but sharp course in Letchworth Broadway Gardens. Racing in the men’s 4th cat race, Stu drilled round to finish a superb 6th bringing a very successful week’s racing to a close.
