Tandem records fall at damp EDCA 15 mile championship

Stephen BrookNews, Time Trials

WSW were out in force both solo and on Tandems at the 15 mile EDCA championships, hosted by Kings Lynn Cycle Club on 19 July. With thanks to Peter Kennedy for this report.

Rita Rue was 2nd place lady
Vets (40-49): 1st, David Young
Team: 1st, David Young, Steve Rue, Peter Kennedy 2:07:44
Tandem: 1st, Cordelia Cole, Lee Sturman 37:47

The rain is raining all around
It falls on field and tree
It rains on the [tandems] here
And on the ships at sea.

The Battle of The Tandems took place at King’s Lynn Cycling Club EDCA 15 mile championship. Setting 4 new club and possibly course records in the most challenging conditions with torrential rain from start to finish:

Men’s Tandem: John Steed Mark Eastwood 40:13
Mixed Tandem: Lee Sturman and Cordelia Cole 37:47 (RB) – 2nd fastest time of the day.
Mens Team Record with Martin Pyne and Anthony Whale coming in just seconds behind their club rivals with 40:18 (RB).
Finally Mixed Team Record: John, Mark, Lee and Cordelia

Let’s not forget the other 5 brave souls who brought the total WSW contingent to 11 riders.
In order of appearance :
Rita Rue (RB) 48:19 (enjoyed the day!)
Steve Rue (TT) 40.17 – that’s tandem speed !!!
Gerry Barton (RB) 50:29 ( glad to see the wife changed your pedals this time! )
David Young (RB) 41:32 ( regrets not having the TT bike )
Peter Kennedy (TT) 45:55 ( ditched the visor 2 miles in… )

Claims of draughting behind the fleet of 3 horse and carts have been vigorously denied by the winning men’s tandem team! Big thanks to Kings Lynn Cycling Club we all had tremendous fun and enjoyed the great hospitality.
