Strong southerly winds greeted the 39 riders to face the timekeeper in this year’s open Hilly 21 Time Trial, starting at Risby.
The event had 3 categories TT bike, Road bike and Medium gear and featured riders from a number of local clubs including West Suffolk Wheelers (hosting), CC Sudbury, Stowmarket & District CC, Cambridge University CC and Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club.
In the classification for TT bikes, Joris Witstok riding for Cambridge University won with a time of 47:04, clear by over 2 mins from 2nd place David Halliday from Team Botrill in 49:07, with Robert Golding of Ely & District Cycling Club in 3rd at 49:30
Local rider Megan Free from West Suffolk Wheelers was 1st lady in 1:01:50 with Amy Sole of Full Moo Cycling in 2nd place at 1:03:17 and Laura Brown of West Suffolk Wheelers in 3rd place at 1:04:53.
Craig Rogers of Cambridge University was fastest on a road bike 50:08, with local 16 year old Harley Gregory of West Suffolk Wheelers second with an impressive 53:41, and Martin Brown of WSW finishing 4th in 56:59. Judy Brown of Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club was the first female finisher in 1:02:13, with Rita Rue of WSW second in 1:10:24, followed by Caroline Wyke of CC Sudbury in 1:23:27.
The only medium gear entry was Boyd Nicholas of West Suffolk Wheelers in 1:02:29

The next event at Risby will be the really open Open time trial – with lots of categories including electric bikes and a class for riders with a combined age of over 100!
