We had 19 Wheelers (across all age groups) at the Amis Velo Cyclo Cross at Colchester. A compact and challenging course on the dry ground made it very easy to spectate and follow the action. Well done to the younger riders; Sam and James Ollenbuttell 17th and 22nd in the U10/U8 race; Matthew Blackwell, Erin Stewart and Poppy Moore 11th, 13th and 19th respectively in the U12 race. Sam Brook came 12th in the U16/U14 race, with Isabel Moore 26th (2nd girl) and Ella Stewart 34th (1st U14 girl). In the 40+ race Matt Denny crashed in a mutiple rider crash in the opening sprint, limped on for a lap but pulled out in pain, leaving Stephen Brook to a race long battle with Simon Christie, finishing 37th and 42nd respectively.
Laura Prime started her season with a promising 10th in the women’s race with Megan Free 14th and Nicki Davis 17th. Paul Watson was as strong as ever with 4th in the 50+ race (2nd 60+), with Peter Golding 12th (4th 60+), Nick Rush 64th and Adi Grimwood 71st in a full field of 80 riders. Harley Gregory now rides in the hour long Snr/Jnr race, and after a minor mishap came back strongly in the last two laps to finish 13th (4th Jnr).
Well done everybody. Next event in the Eastern League is again at Hillyfields, Colchester on 2nd October with our own WSW event coming soon at West Stow on Saturday 5th November.
