It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing on Thursday morning of Club President Don Picking. On behalf of the club and all it’s members we would like to pass on our deepest condolences to Don’s wife Brenda and family.
Don joined the West Suffolk Wheelers in 1962 and over the intervening 56 years his contribution to the club has been immense. As a rider there are scarce few club trophies that have not borne his name; he was a fierce competitor, yet always a true gentleman. He has filled so many roles at the club, including editor of The Wheeler magazine, eight years as club chairman and latterly as the club President. Don and Brenda were always ready to support club events, whether that was serving tea and cake, timekeeping at the roller racing, or as ever present Go-Ride helpers bringing through a new generation of cyclists.
Don was an inspirational figure whose warm good humour made for great company. He was always ready with a tall tale and a funny story from his long history with our club. A club that he loved and a club that will miss him dearly.
