Club Runs
The West Suffolk Wheelers have Club Runs to suit all abilities. They are a good way to meet like minded individuals, improve your riding technique and give you confidence in riding within a group. Group riding can be 30% more efficient than cycling by yourself!
There are six regular Club Runs - many go every week, all year round - see below for the status of Club Runs going next weekend. Club Runs are social rides with a "no-drop" policy, but please make sure you choose a Club Run that matches your ability. All Club Runs (except the Community Ride) have a coffee stop and are led by a volunteer leader. Routes change with the wind, so no two weeks are the same.
Note: all riders take part at their own risk. Please read the "Group Riding Conduct and Etiquette Guide".
Saturday Community Ride
Saturday 09:15 - Club HQ, Shakers Lane, IP32 7BH
Distance: 20-25 miles. Speed: 11-13 mph (no coffee stop)
This leisurely ride is perfect for novice riders new to group riding or those wanting a more relaxed pace. It is led by an experienced club rider and typically sticks to quiet country lanes. A great introduction to the club, you don’t need a fancy road bike to join the group and all are welcome.
Saturday Mocha
Saturday 09:15 - Club HQ, Shakers Lane, IP32 7BH
Distance: 30-35 miles. Speed: 13-15 mph
Formerly known as the Latte Plus. The Mocha ride is designed to be a bridge between the more leisurely Community Ride and the club favourite Cappuccino. It has the same welcoming atmosphere of the Community Ride, but helps you build on your fitness and skills.
Saturday Cappuccino & Espresso
Saturday 09:00 - Club HQ, Shakers Lane, IP32 7BH
Distance: 40-50 miles. Speed: 15-17 mph
Kick start your weekend with the Saturday Cappuccino, the most popular of our club rides. You'll get a friendly welcome and find it is an excellent step up from the Latte rides.
From May 2024, owing to the increasing popularity of the Saturday Cappucino we've made a change: the Cappuccino will always be on every Saturday. If we have more than 12 people to create a second group or we have 2 ride leaders and we would like to split into 2 groups then we will have a Cappuccino ride and an Espresso ride. Both will go to the same cafe (unless we have huge numbers that one cafe can't accommodate - this has happened!). This gives people the choice to try either group.
However if we do not split into 2 groups then the ride will go ahead at the Cappuccino pace and an Espresso group will not happen. So to sum up: there will always be a Cappucino ride, and depending on numbers there is the possibility of an Espresso-paced ride for those who prefer.
Sunday Espresso
Sunday 09:00 - Club HQ, Shakers Lane, IP32 7BH
Distance: 50-60 miles. Speed: 17-19 mph
The Espresso is the quickest and longest Club Run. The pace may be higher and it will give you more of a workout, but it still stops for cake! The Espresso may not go regularly until the summer months, so we suggest posting on our Facebook group first to see who else will be out.
Sunday Cappuccino
Sunday 09:00 - Club HQ, Shakers Lane, IP32 7BH
Distance: 40-50 miles. Speed: 15-17 mph
The Saturday Cappucino ride is the most popular but some members do also ride on a Sunday - if you'd like a Cappucino-paced ride on a Sunday, we suggest posting on our Facebook group first to see who else will be out. Alternatively you can email membership@westsuffolkwheelers.org and we can put you in touch with other Sunday riders.
Wednesday for Wheelers
Wednesday 09:00 - New Green Community Centre, Thurston, IP31 3TG
Distance: 50-60 miles. Speed: 15-17 mph
The mid-week ride is a perfect tonic. No matter whether you are retired, self-employed or have a day off work, please join the group for a great ride. Parking is available opposite the New Green Centre.
