2022 is West Suffolk Wheelers’ Centenary year – the club was founded on 5 May 1922. To celebrate, the club has a series of events planned. This week, we held an open day at club HQ to introduce new members to the range of activities we have to offer, and recreated a scene on Angel Hill in Bury St Edmunds last seen at the time of the 75th anniversary in 1997. For the photo on Angel Hill, members wore club kit from down the years, many choosing the special limited edition Anniversary jersey.
After the photo, members split into various groups to ride out to different part of Suffolk, one group to Alder Carr farm at Needham Market, another headed east towards Finningham and a last group decided to celebrate 100 years with a 100 mile ride down to Felixstowe, across the ferry to Bawdsey and back again.
Finally, there was a group of MTB riders who couldn’t make the anniversary photo owing to an appointment at Round 3 of the Travers XC MTB race near Southend. Congratulations to Paul Watson (1st in League 1), Jeremy Waterson (3rd), Adam Page (4th) and Kevin Burton
