Marston Mega Cross – 17 August

Four wheelers raced at Marston mega cross race on 17 August. Marston Mega Cross is a unique event, raced over an off-road course of around 5 miles (either solo or in teams) for 3 hours.
Megan Free and partner Caroline came 1st in female pairs relay.
Paul Watson raced solo, 3rd in Age Category.
Nick Rush and Karl Hale raced in pairs relay.
Well done all of you.

Mildenhall Festival – 24 August

WSW were represented in 2 events held at the Mildenhall Festival on 24 August – Megan Free was 2nd Woman in the Fenland Flyer off-road time trial, held over 20km of bumpy fenland lanes and tracks.

Meanwhile Stephen Brook and Sam Brook rode in the Grass Track event **, which this year opened with a Bristow Devil … a format that apparently is unique to Mildenhall ! Unlike a normal Devil, where the last rider is eliminated each lap, in the Bristow Devil the race is won by scoring the most points, which is achieved by being the second last rider across the line each time … with the last rider still being eliminated. A final point is scored by being the last rider standing at the end, which Sam managed (meaning he finished 3rd overall in the race, other riders having scored more points before being eliminated earlier on).

Stephen doesn’t do so well in the sprints, but managed 21st in a large field of 28 riders in the Alex Pendleton 5km Scratch race (finally using a bigger gear this week!) while Sam finished 3rd in the Bristow Devil, 2nd (to former national champ Tom White) in the 400m scratch and 3rd in the 3-lap handicap.

** yes, I know Grass Track is a branch of Track racing, which BC groups with Road Racing …. but it is off-road !
