Sunday 4 October – Norwich ABC 25 mile TT

And elsewhere news just in… Four West Suffolk Wheelers braved the foggy Stanton detour to attend the Norwich ABC 25 mile time trial this morning.
The fog quickly lifted and the sun came out for dry, warm, still conditions on the two lap Diss/ Bungay route.
19 riders took part overall including:
David Young who managed a sterling performance of 1:06:27 (-0.22)
Stephen Moore- 1:07.07 (+0.27)
Steven Rue 1:09.54 (an amazing +7.24 minute age graded performance and last, but certainly not least: Rita Rue 1:18.22 (-0.06).
Chris Holmes from VC Norwich came in first with a stunning 54:49 performance followed closely by Richard Lamp at 54:49.
Amy Sole (Team Bottrill/ NoPinz) was first lady in at 1:01.57 followed by Julia Freeman (Easterly Road Club) with a solid 1:08.23 25-mile time.
WSW took the team title today. A great morning was had by all.

Sunday 27 September – VTTA 25 Mile TT

West Suffolk Wheelers relaxing after competing in the VTTA 25 mile TT this afternoon at Hemingford just N/W of Cambridge in ideal conditions.
Sadly the only rider missing is Anthony Whale, who unfortunately dislocated his shoulder during the event forcing him to retire.
The Wheelers times for the 25 mile TT are as follows:
Ed tipper continued his end of season run of good rides, with a PB of 1hr 01.46
Martin Pyne his best ride in the last 3 previous seasons was a 1h 07.12, but he rode his socks off today with a 1h 03.36
Steven Rue his best ride for last 3 previous seasons 1hr 9m 0, today’s ride 1h 6m 10
Mark Eastwood a creditable 1h9m17
Rita Rue 1h 15m 04 was fastest female on a road bike and fastest in her age group.
Well done all those riders!
Just as a footnote, I checked on the result sheet, on the Spindata section where riders current results before the race are used to predict what is estimated their time might be in the race, it’s rather nice today…
Three WSW riders head the list:
Ed Tipper 0.02.22
Martin Pyne
0.02.18
Steven Rue
0.02.15
All three are just over 2 minutes faster than predicted..
I don’t think we’ll see that again, but who knows in future races, next year well done again all the riders.
Next weekend sees the last 10 and 25mile TT with the Norwich ABC.
Well done to all those that have raced for WSW first claim and also out second claim members. Hopefully more will join us next season.

[ Editor’s note – congratulations to Ed Tipper for completing his first cyclocross race in many years the following day at Welwyn ! ]
Saturday 12 September – DAP Cycling Club 10 mile TT

Today, the Wheelers had a few less entries than normal, but had some good rides.
Fastest solo rider was Ed Tipper, who continued at the end of season good form with another 24-minute ride,a 24.40, well done Ed.
Anthony Whale with a 26.33 just 1 second of his best time for that course.
And Rita Rue,with a 29.03,just seconds away from a 28-minute ride.
The sunny conditions were only spoilt by the wind, which was great going out but made it harsher on the return.
Martin Pyne and Mark Eastwood tried their new partnership on a tandem and recorded a 24.18,not bad for their first race together, with a tailwind they did touch 35 mph but on the return were down to 19 mph. They had a practice ride on Friday, shortened to only 4 miles ,when Marks handlebars on the rear became loose, but no mechanical problems today, only the headwind finish in the race. Well done all who participated
